Conflict Resolution

Monteze Synders's (1990) workbook titled Building Consensus: Conflict and Unity described a process for collaborative decisions making and consensus building. The process originated with the Quakers' Religious Society of Friends and emphasized cooperation and fairness. The process of building consensus, described in the book, allowed others to respond to the viewpoints of dissenters in a civilized manner. The technique used a facilitator to achieve a common ground through a workable solution and to achieve informed decision making. Through the incorporation of trust, problems were co-owned. New ideas were synthesized from the individual's sharing of information. The resolve was the unity created from the differences. All viewpoints were recognized and considered. Disagreement was an option. Employees obtained a sense membership from being involved in the decision making process. The author supplied some very good advice on writing professional e-mails. At the back of the book there was a list of do's and don'ts.
