The states that have gained their independence or have been established in the post-war period are usually called democracies, but lately there has been more and more criticism directed towards democracy. A specifically pessimistic tune particularly stands out, stating that democracy can only function properly given a society with strong moral convictions. Looking at these negative opinions in more detail reveals the real reasons for this phenomenon. We arrive at the conclusion that the functioning of democracy could be improved.
