Back in 1974, Davey, Roy and Todd should be looking forward to a summer of fun, but Roy is not himself. He confides to his two friends that his mom has a new boyfriend named Frank, and Roy is convinced Frank is no good. He doesn't like the way Frank treats his mom, and he's certain the guy has gotten her hooked on drugs. The boys discuss possible plans to help Roy get rid of Frank, but then suggest Roy simply talk to his mom about it. Roy does, but his mom's response shatters his world. Now desperate, Roy rushes into a course of action taking his two buds with him, and something awful happens, something none of them ever foresaw. The repercussions of their actions cause a series of life changing events, and nothing will ever be the same for any of them. The boys agree to keep what happened that night a secret and they do until forty years later, when the last one of them still living tells the story of what happened on that horrible night.
