This story takes place in the last decade of the 19thcentury. Rumor has it that during that time period'ladies of the night' from New York City visitedCheshire. Details of their visits are sketchy but onecommon thread to the story is that they vacationed at one of Cheshire's most elegant homes, the GreylockVilla on Richardson Street.The author discovered proof of a Brooklyn connectionwith the villa during 1893 and he has used it as thebasis for this fictional tale. Mr. Emery endeavored tobe historically accurate with period facts and the photo- graphs used to illustrate the story. However, althoughsome characters lived in Cheshire at the time of thestory, their words and actions are purely fictional.
