Family and friends will understand life with anorexia

Parents of anorexics face challenges on all front. They struggle to help their child recover, they struggle to find time to take care of their other children, they struggle to make ends meet despite time off for doctor's appointments. They also face challenges in trying to help friends and acquaintances understand the bizarre world of anorexia. This book provides an accurate picture of the life and thinking of a teenage girl with anorexia and how her family struggles to help her recover. Told from the point of view of both the girl with anorexia as well as her parents, it is a difficult book to read if you have had anorexia or if your child has struggled with anorexia because it will bring back the heartbreak as you relive those terrible experiences. This book will be most valuable in helping family and friends better understand what it's like to struggle with anorexia.

Bronte's Story

If you're old enough to remember this story from (from memory it was the Ray Martin Current Affair show) from the 1990's, then you should read this book. More than 10 years after those initial broadcasts, Bronte tells her side of the story, and what happened after she left Australia. Using diary's she kept, before, during and after her treatment in the Montreux clinic, this book provides a fabulous (if not harrowing) insight into the mind of an anorexic. I don't want to spoil the book any further, but needless to say, Bronte is a rare survivor. This book is right up there in my must read list. In the 1980's the must read book was H, Story of a heroin Addict, (The Christianne F Story) but in the noughties, if you have daughter (or a son) you need to read this. ISBN 1-74051-307-x
