At eight years old, Ben learned how to survive raised in chaos. His father in prison, addiction in the home, violence, homelessness, and the crushing weight of religious extremism. He grew up believing the world was his enemy. Fear turned to anger. Anger turned to hate. Surrounded by racism, Ben found belonging in White supremacist ideology, embracing the very beliefs that were slowly destroying him.
By eighteen, that path led him to prison, but prison did not break him. It stripped him bare. Forced to confront the pain beneath his rage, Ben began the long brutal work of unlearning everything he thought made him strong. What he discovered was something far more powerful. The courage to face himself, to question, and to change and discover who he truly was. In the most unexpected place, he found love, family, and the freedom to explore his true identity and confront the fears that had shaped his life.
This is a story of deradicalization, self-discovery, and the radical act of choosing who you become. Prison wasn't his end; it was his beginning.
