BROKEN COUNTRY by Clare Leslie Hall I went into this blind and with low expectations as I haven’t liked many celeb book club picks, but I was hooked by the first chapter. I’m not a romance reader, but I do love a good mystery and suspense —this book is all three. I love deeply flawed and morally ambiguous characters. It makes them all the more believable, relatable, and human. I consider it a good thing when I’m conflicted about who I should be rooting for. Beth is selfish and self-serving, but her grief and actions after losing Bobby was understandable. That part of the book was written so well! My heart shattered along with hers. And poor Frank truly deserved better. Overall, an engaging and emotional roller coaster of a read. Yet also a little predictable and somewhat melodramatic. Recommend for the drama, but check trigger warnings. Rating: 3.75/5 ⭐️
