Excellent Book

After much looking, I chose this book for two children, ages 12 and 6, separate families, who are both scared of bees. Both illustrations and content are excellent. The colored pencil drawings are detailed but non-threatening, especially important for the 6 year old. The Editorial/Booklist review above gives a good description, but I disagree the text has 'unpredictable' or 'unsatisfying' poetic elements. I've read it silently and aloud and don't perceive any real effort at 'rhythm and rhyme' being made. To me it just sounds like appropriate words and placement. I would have preferred a more challenging reading level for the 12 year old, but I couldn't find books about bees for the middle school-aged child, so I've also purchased for him "Honey Bees and Hives" with a very simple text but strong photos.
