Bridges
Autism Inside-Out
What if autism is not a problem to be solved, but a world to be entered?
What if connection is not built by pulling a child into our universe, but by meeting them in theirs - and building a bridge between?
This book, Bridges, was born out of years of listening, working, and being with autistic children and families. It doesn't start with deficits or diagnoses. It starts with the autistic mind itself - a place of rhythm, intensity, beauty, and meaning.
From that beginning, it unfolds in two ways:
first, through a journey into the inner world of autism - how trust, play, language, and emotion grow from the inside out.then, through 33 practical skills, each one a small step in building that bridge: eye contact that is earned, not forced; speech that grows from connection, not drills; routines that bring safety, not control. This is not a manual to fix, not a toolkit to normalise.
It is an invitation - to parents, therapists, educators, and to autistic children themselves.
It is an attempt, imperfect and human, to build a bridge wide enough for both worlds:
where autistic multiverses are honoured, and a shared universe of mutual understanding can also be built.
May it help those stranded on distant shores find a way across.
