If they need a tutor...

here's a good start. This text accompanies software of the same name (which is sold separately from the book.) According to the preface, this book offers lessons that parallel and extend the concepts in the software. Problem solving and reasoning for everyday use of algebra is the focus. Learn by doing. Deliberate connections are made between different representations in math. Fractions, etc are different ways to represent numbers, and tables, graphs, etc are different ways to represent functions. Icons in the front of problems in lessons encourage working in partner teams and small groups. Chapters cover the 6 math strands in NCTM: number, geometry, measurement, probability and statistics and algebra. There are 5 pages of answers to the problems in the back. Hard to find.
