"Brewing in the Pretzel City" Stephenson County and Freeport, IlThe stories of the brewing families and the immigrants that built America. America's favorite beer style lager, was one of Europe's great additions to the beer culture of the world. Brewed in all major countries, it was produced as early as 1845 in Silver Creek Ill, a small community just outside of Freeport. The research uncovered photos and text from sources such as the Stephenson County Historical Society and the Freeport Public Library research facilities. Topics will span brewing in Freeport Ill from 1845-1940 into the current explosion of the craft beer market in Stephenson County. Currently, a new generation of beer drinkers now have three breweries in the county pumping out thousands of gallons of "liquid gold."
