The processes that a society goes through to become a nation are not always the same and are never exempt from a multitude of problems and obstacles: feudal lords, famines, constant wars ... the case of Korea was no different, and although its relative independence with respect to the neighboring kingdoms could have given a really interesting stability to the area, the truth is that, in reality, Korea enjoyed few long periods of peace. Beginning with prehistory and ending with the present, in this book we will study the political, economic and cultural processes that the Korean peninsula went through. We will look at the trajectory that Korea followed in dealing with the internal conflicts and cultural differences that existed between the North, the South or the East. Paradoxically, it would not be until the 4th century, when Chinese influence was already palpable, that the Silla kingdom managed to unify the peninsula and a good part of Manchuria. We will attend to the Japanese invasion attempts and its subsequent occupation, its fundamental role in the Cold War, the distancing between the current Koreas and the timid current attempts at rapprochement in search of a future unification.
