In the post-apocalyptic colony of Perpetuity, Sidney Potts is living a normal life. At least to him it is a normal life. He grew up with his two dads and his step-brother. He is like everyone else in the colony. All males grew up with two fathers and all females grew up with two mothers. All his life, Sidney had been told to avoid people named breeders. Breeders is a derogatory term to someone who is going against this normality. The society is very strict and plans to hunt down all breeders and have them be killed for their crimes against society. He ends up meeting Gracie Wilder one day, a breeder in secret, who shows him what the real meaning of normality is. She shows him that it's okay to be against society despite how dangerous it is. However, when their identification numbers are called during the equinox population lottery, their secret relationship is in jeopardy and their lives are risked just to be with each other especially since they will be locked up in the capital center to become part of the population process. In a highly strict society that kills all breeders, Sidney doesn't realise how his life is in so much danger just by following what is true to his heart.
