Excellent!

Jessica Whitaker enjoys her work as a U.S. Marine Corp Combatant diver. Now that career is jeopardy and it appears that Arachne, the elusive foe of all Athena Academy graduates, is gunning for her. Is it Jessica's unusual ability that Arachne desires? Jessica takes an assignment for Oracle to look for a sunken ship in hopes of obtaining information to oppose Arachne. But will this mission put everyone onboard in jeopardy? And what about her attraction to Zach Holiday, the owner of the salvage operation she is working with? BREATHLESS exemplifies what I've come to expect from the Athena Force series. Sharron McClellan perfectly captures all the elements that first made me fall in love with this line: a sharp heroine who is able to handle herself in dangerous situations, a male who is both capable and willing to let the heroine be independent, and a fast paced storyline. What more could I ask for as a reader? BREATHLESS can easily be read as a stand alone story. Sharron McClellan provides readers with all the information needed to understand the ongoing issues. Better yet, BREATHLESS also helps move this continuity series forward as it adds some new information to the ongoing storyline. Sharron McClellan keeps readers on her toes, anxiously turning the pages to see what will happen next. Arachne is gunning for Jessica and it's going to take all of Jessica's skills, plus a bit of luck, to keep her safe. There is a slight paranormal element, just enough to satisfy readers like me who enjoy the paranormal but not so much to bother those who are simply looking for a good romantic suspense story. Inventive Romantic Adventure

Premise: the tough and smart heroine is part of Athena Force, a group of girls who went to an academy for the gifted. The very gifted! The heroine even has the paranormal ability to breathe underwater. She is also a Marine and teams up with an attractive man / salvage hunter type who takes her on his boat in search of some crucial information that could possibly bring down the nemesis of the Athena Force. This tightly written story is thick with adventure. The hero and heroine are both likeable and realistic even though it's all from the heroine's viewpoint and she can breathe underwater. The author makes this believable. The paranormal worldbuilding is light but appropriate to the tone of the story. It is also inventive, instead of treading the same paths as other paranormal romances. The adventure details, in particular the underwater scenes, felt very real to me. Complaints would be limited to the fact that the love connection happens faster than I expected considering the setting and plot and the fact that some suspension of disbelief is required at the end, but I don't want to spoil any surprises. All in all, this is a rip-roaring and sexy romance that doesn't concentrate only on the romance. The plot elements are balanced. If you like Romancing the Stone and movies and books like that, this is definitely one to try.

I love the athena force series. They are a great combination of intrigue, suspense and romance. A must read!!!!

tense romantic suspense

U.S. Marine Corp Combatant diver and Athena Academy graduate Jessica Whitaker leads a military exercise with newbies when she realizes someone sabotaged their training. Before seeking safety for herself, Jessica makes sure none of the participants are left behind as she is a marine. Soon after that the Athena Academy asks Jessica to find a three-year old shipwreck and recover a laptop from it. Assigned to help her is expert marine salvager and computer guru Zach Holiday. Jess and Zach are attracted to one another from the onset and share euphoria when they find their undersea objective. HoArachne has sent troops to retrieve the laptop from them. The pair depends on one another to avoid a watery grave. This tense romantic suspense shows why this reviewer feels the Athena Force series is one of the most exciting on the market today. Sharan McClellan leaves her audience BREATHLESS as her lead couple struggle to survive against incredible odds, they come across as real people whose expertise may not be enough. Fans of the saga will appreciate the latest action packed thriller. Harriet Klausner
