Breathing by Faith

Benny was born with cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disease that affects both the lungs and the digestive system. Had doctors not operated on him at birth, he wouldn't have survived. That was the first of many surgeries and near death experiences he would later have to endure throughout the rest of his life.

On April 30, 2020, at the age of 31, Benny went home to be with the Lord. His greatest passion was sharing about all the good things God has done in his life, despite the difficulties. Never once did he ask, "Why me?" Instead, Benny understood that his suffering had a purpose.

Benny was a joy to everyone around him. Whether confined to a hospital bed or sitting among friends, he had a gift for making people laugh and lifting the spirits of those around him. Though many might have considered his life unfortunate, Benny never saw it that way. Even through suffering, he carried a joy deeper than circumstances.

Psalms 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Benny was crushed indeed, yet he continually cried out to the Lord and the Lord answered him. When Benny couldn't see tomorrow, he did the only thing he knew how to do: he prayed, trusted God, and lived each moment breathing by faith.
