Black History is important because it gives knowledge and understanding of the past and present events of African American people and their struggle for freedom and equal rights. It teaches us how to appreciate and respect our culture. It teaches us how to understand change and how the Society we live in came to be. Many children today have little knowledge about black history. I feel as though it should be a federal requirement to teach black history and make it part of the schools curriculum. Certain parts of black history is being discussed in these classrooms but not enough. Black history is American history so why is it whitewashed. Black History is a time when African Americans can take the time out and see what our ancestors fought for. It is a time of rejoicing, celebrating and giving thanks for paving the way for us all.
