He was called Bras Coupe', "The Terror of the Swamps" in New Orleans in 1837, but in reality, his true name was Squire DeBuys, a victim of slave patrol brutality where his arm was severely mangled by a gunshot and had to be amputated. From the bitterness of his amputation, he fled the hospital and went into the swamps and began a rampage of revenge against the hated slave patrols.
