Great Beginnings!

This series of books is the best I have found for beginning readers! Most other beginning readers are so DRY and BORING. At this stage, reading is hard work, and the Brand New Readers' stories all have clever endings that actually make it worth the child's time and effort to read! The pictures are bright and lively, and provide plenty of clues for tackling the simple words on each page. Just enough repetition and predictability to build confidence, with a funny little twist at the end to make them smile. If you are tired of the drudgery of BOB books and the Dick and Jane series, give these books a try.

These Work!

My daughter is five and loves these books. So do I! They are fun to read and hold her interest. The illustrations are great. I am a former teacher and have perused many other reader sets. This is my favorite!

Success for brand new readers!

I found a Brand New Readers book at the library and my 5-year-old son loved it, so I went ahead and ordered the blue, red, and orange sets. What a bargain! Each set has 10 different books to help kids learn how to read, a progress chart, tips for parents, and a completion certificate for when the child has read all 10. Each book is 8 simple pages with wonderful illustrations that correspond to the text. My son had not really been interested in reading (he loves being read to) until I found these books, but now he really enjoys the stories, and even my 2 1/2 year old wants to "read" them. The stories are fairly predictable, which is important for new readers, but there is always some little funny twist at the end that gets him laughing. But the best part is seeing the look of pride on his face when he finishes reading a book and puts the sticker on the progress chart. I think he is surprised that he is actually reading! As a former preschool and elementary teacher, I HIGHLY recommend this series for new readers, especially reluctant readers.

Brand New Readers are the very best beginning reader books!

I homeschool my 4 1/2 year old son and have bought just about every beginning reader book to help learn the joy of reading and slowly teach him how to read. By far, Brand New Readers are the very, very best. I highly recommend them to parents and hope you try these before you go out and buy any others, no other company does it better. The stories are short, very cute and fun, with vibrant pictures so your child will want to go from story to story. They always have a really cute ending that even adults will enjoy. What is so wonderful about them is that they are repetitive from page to page with only simple changes so your child can predict the words using the pictures and read the story themselves. Even though my son can not actually read he feels like a successful, independent reader and is so proud that he can read his favorite stories anytime he wants, all by himself. He reads to us, he reads to his sister, he reads to our cat! Slowly he is picking up common sight words that he reads over and over in his books. I plan to buy all the beginning reader books I can find, my son can not get enough of them.

Great confidence booster

When we received this set, my 5-year-old wanted to read all 10 of these books right away! The Brand New Reader system is a great way for new readers to gain confidence in their newly-developing reading skills. There's, also, a packet in this that lets your child write her (or his) own book. It's definitely worth the money!
