Bill Carver's book made me absolutely homesick for the Western North Carolina mountains where I grew up. His book vividly portrays the innate goodness of mountain folk as he masterfully weaves tales of hard work, family ties, and neighborly kindness. You will find yourself longing for cool mountain streams, fresh, clean air, and the warm, cozy familiarity of family. You will also wish Mr. Carver had more stories to tell, for there are certainly not enough here to satiate your appetite for his humor and wit.
Storytelling at its best

It was wonderful to read Branch Water Tales. The descriptions of the people and the places were so vivid, I could actually see and hear the stories as they were being told. In some places my mouth watered as I read of old time kitchens and family meals. Carver really knows the mountain people he describes. The characters are wonderful and the stories exciting. I hope Mr. Carver has more mountain folk to talk about. I feel like I know each of the people in the book. He has a winner!
