Love, pain, triumph and how we gain our humanity as we grow

This book is an eye-opening read, but terribly hard to categorize. It is the inspiring story that some would call a miracle, of a child born with very severe troubles becoming an aware, curious, walking, talking, young lady--but at the same time it reminds, with every entry, that this is not a miracle, but the result of a community of people focusing for years on one person to make her well. There is a feeling of tedium to the entries, as month after month they go by, while at the same the riveting story of so may different people is told, catalogued page by page in precise, but simple and maternal, detail. I found the book yesterday at a library sale for 25 cents, and within one day had read the entire 505 pages. Reads like a private diary, revealing, but so many things explained in a scientific manner, with the underlying message that there is huge potential in all people that can be brought out.
