World War II up close and personal

If you are interested in World War II this book belongs in your library. The author grew up as a teenager in Berlin during the war, also two of his brothers were officers in the German army. (He lost one, and the other did over eight years in a Soviet POW camp). He has a perspective on the war like no one else, he lived it. This book tells his family's personal struggles through out the war and the heart break that was delivered on the German civilians. He explains how, even though internal hatred was brewing for the Nazi Party, the SS, and the party leaders, Adolf Hitler was able to keep up his image. He was seen as a leader fighting for the German cause until late in the war when the rumors of the mass murders were spreading about the Nazi's. The common view by the German people was that they saw the war as a Holy Crusade against the evil, Godless, Communist, Soviet Empire. A majority of Germans could not understand why the western countries would not join in the war against the red army. Having studied 20th century history the author explains that Hitler believed he had to attack the Soviet's first because of his fear of an inevitable attack from them. You will read in this book the author's journey through the war years. His take on WWII from years of study. Also how Adolf Hitler brought on the shipwreck of the German nation through is misplaced manias and passions. It is a great read on all levels.
