In a fractured multiverse where souls are trapped in endless cycles of rebirth, two alien companions, later known as Terri and Steven, respond to a distress signal from EarthPrime. To hack into a closed system inaccessible to outsiders, they first decide to be born together in one body using experimental zillazeppin birthing pods from the Moon station and are then delivered to EarthPrime. Anticipating and receiving a quick and grisly end at the hands of the shapeshifting zillazeppin, and with the necessary biometric markers installed they then allow the machinery of the system to deliver them to a natural birth, eventually emerging as unlikely saviors as EarthPrime teeters on the brink of collapse.

EarthPrime is powered by the Source, a cosmic wellspring of life energy located in the Ether that dark forces plan to use. Now a Police Officer, Terri, a seasoned enforcer from another dimension, quickly gets caught up in the mysterious Ether, a limbo-like place where the lines between lives get blurry. What is her goal? To stop the Seekers of the Eternal Flame from committing petty acts of sabotage and ritualistic crimes while figuring out with Steven, who has detached himself from the naturally born body he shared with Terri, how to address larger issues facing EarthPrime's structural core. They communicate through an ability to merge their minds.

But things get worse when the zillazeppins, aided by their cunning partners, the xyillacs, make Terri a top target. These ancient entities want to bring back the notorious dictator Hister from the depths of the Source to establish a new world order on the doomed planet. As they make dangerous deals with rogue reincarnates and investigate hidden dimensions of the Ether, Terri and Steven have to deal with their own problems. Steven is still angered about the death of the first delivery child, and Terri begins to question whether they have the right to alter EarthPrime's future. As the core of the planet becomes less stable, the Seekers close in. The couple must hurry to subdue the overlords, or else they end up trapping everyone, including themselves, in an apocalyptic hell.
