Over the past ten years I've become kind of a non-fiction geek. Dunno, just can't seem to find any fiction that gets its hooks deeply enough into me to make a real impression. I give it a whirl a few times a year with a new Grisham or something I hear about on NPR, but by the last page I'm still not satisfied. It's disappointing. Just finished reading Bootleg Skies this morning, and it shattered this bad-fiction streak. It fulfilled my expectations for being fun, pulpy, and full of smokey airplane action. But it also genuinely surprised me with its thorough character development and engrossing plot. I look forward to more from Berge. If you're a pilot, or, like me, clawing your way through the expensive and time-consuming process of becoming one, you'll really enjoy this book. It'll remind you of what drew you into that FBO the first time, yourself.
A real page-turner
