Book of Mormon Discourses: Doctrines and Commentary

Book of Mormon content is comprised of (i) events, and (ii) discourses. Events are historical incidents and episodes, and various accounts of political turmoil, war and deliverance. These events often illustrate gospel principles, explicitly or implicitly. The Book of Mormon also includes approximately 28 discrete prophetic discourses, or sermons, delivered to a particular audience. These discourses generally communicate religious doctrines, such as the power of Christ's Atonement, the conditions of repentance, and the importance of faith, hope and charity. Book of Mormon Discourses is intended to be a companion guide for scripture study and a resource for gospel instruction. Each chapter focuses on a specific discourse delivered by an individual prophet, and includes a brief introduction, a summary list of key doctrines, and a commentary on those doctrines. My intent in compiling these materials and organizing Book of Mormon content into doctrinal discourses is to provide (1) a framework to approach Book of Mormon study; (2) a novel structure to assist in analysis, comprehension, and recollection of prophetic teachings; and (3) a supplemental collection of commentaries to help increase understanding of key Book of Mormon doctrines.
