Finally, a really useful book on grammar

Don't get me wrong. There are many good books on grammar. I know; I own many of them. However, a problem with many of them is that they delve too deeply into what I consider trivia and not the core of written communications. That is where this book stands out. Further, it's a fun read. Unlike most grammar books, you can actually start on page one and read through it and enjoy every page. And the author exhibits a natural sense of humor; not one for belly laughs, but one for seeing the humor in life and in the written word. The book is a delight. I have authored eight books and am always sensitive on my writing, and at first I was hesitant to read yet another book on the topic, but I'm glad that I did. This is a book for anyone who cares about their written communication, whether in business or writing letters to family. To me, a treat of the book is that it also helps me frame my thoughts into words. And that may be the biggest benefit of all. I think everyone needs a copy by their bed, one in their office, and two or three scattered around their homes for ready reference.... :) Yes, it's that good.

A Helpful Resource for Everyone

I've found this book to be a very helpful resource as I write articles for the monthly newsletter at the nonprofit agency where I work.. I was surprised to find mistakes that I often make without realizing it. Boohers book highlights these common mistakes in a style that is fun to read, and easy to remember. Im looking forward to reading more!

Dianna is a winner yet again!

I admit that I may be somewhat of a Dianna groupie, but it is only because of what I have come to expect from her books...and she consistently delivers. I already have read Speak with Confidence and Communicate with Confidence. Since I am in the process of writing a book myself, I wanted to get an up-to-date, easy-to-read, user-friendly one-stop guide to good grammar. Again, Dianna doesn't disappoint. I am especially troubled by the use of the passive voice (just ask my automated grammar checker). This was the first thing I researched in Dianna's book. Her tips on turning a passive sentence to active and the importance of consistency within a sentence were extremely helpful - while still acknowledging the value of variety and not needing to be a strict disciplinarian about it (okay, perhaps that last sentence could use some editing by Dianna)- but, I hope you get the point. This book is well worth the investment of your time and your money.

A Grammar Book That Is Helpful AND Fun!

Grammar, fun? Yes! I even found myself looking ahead to see what else was in store! If this kind of thing can be this entertaining, it could revolutionize businesses, universities, schools...anywhere people are pulling their hair trying to keep their sanity while trying to keep a firm grip on professional accuracy! In the overflow of emails, letters, websites, and so on, this book is a lifesaver. It is not only user-friendly, it is fun, funny, and downright enjoyable! Even if you are one who hated grammar time in school, you will love THIS grammar book! Most of the chapter titles are common mistakes of our current culture and many are mine! Dianna has made this geeky subject one we can all enjoy revisiting. The explanations of proper usage (like when to use "affect" instead of "effect", "have gone" instead of "have went") are light-hearted while being clear and precise. Remember, "'i' before 'e', except after 'c'"? There are tons of those type of helps in Booher's "Memory Tips" at the end of each chapter, as well as subjects like where to put commas and where not to put them. Keep this book close by for yourself or for anyone you work with or supervise who is responsible for anything written. It will keep embarrassing bad grammar in check! There really is a correct way to use the verbs "lie" and "lay". Who knew?? Dianna, that's who!

Quick, Clever and To the Point!

Wonderful! I can finally enjoy learning to be a better writer from the guru of communications. Great flow, clever titles and I love the Memory Tip at the end of each chapter. Dianna has done it again in giving us a guide to follow on basics of grammar and then some. Kudos! Valerie Sokolosky
