Bon Jovi is an American rock band formed in 1983, from Sayreville, New Jersey, comprising lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, pianist and keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, lead guitarist Phil X, and bassist Hugh McDonald. The band's lineup has since been fairly static, apart from the dismissal of bass player Alec John Such in 1994, being unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald, followed by the departure of longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora in 2013. Phil X and McDonald then both became official members in 2016. In 1986, Bon Jovi achieved worldwide fame with their third album, Slippery When Wet, with the band's fourth album, New Jersey, having been equally successful in 1988. After touring and recording non-stop during the late 1980s, the band had a break following the New Jersey Tour in 1990, with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora both having released successful solo albums. In 1992, they returned with the album Keep the Faith, before after another break, their 2000 hit single "It's My Life", introduced the band to a younger audience. Bon Jovi have used a variety of styles in their music, including on their country album Lost Highway, in 2007. Bon Jovi have released 13 studio albums, plus six compilations and three live albums, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide, performing more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries to over 34 million fans. The band was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, also having been honoured with the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards in 2004, before collaborators Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009. On December 13, 2017, it was announced that Bon Jovi would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, after winning the 2017 fan ballot, with over 1.1 million votes. Jon Bon Jovi invited Sambora and Such to appear with the band at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, it being confirmed later in February 2018 that Such and Sambora would then perform with the band.
