This book is an essential for any "new" fans wanting to pick up on the history of Bon Jovi from the very beginning, or a long-time fan like myself looking to add worthwhile items to their memorabilia. From the outlines of the lead singer's childhood to the history of the members of the band, we follow their rise to glory from playing at high school proms to the release of one of the best selling albums of all time. The book is well researched, with quotes garnered from school friends, teachers and family members - as well as the band members themselves - giving an incisive view of the lads from New Jersey who were going to make it big no matter what, through hard work, determination and most importantly, talent. The text answers questions which now regularly crop up around the jovi-fan community. The snapshot descriptions of concerts, the hysteria, the desire of Jon Bon Jovi to literally reach out and touch his fans, remembering where he came from, touch the memories of "older" fans, and give an insight to the "newer" fan. One of the most interesting things to note is that John Bongiovi (the man, not the rockstar) especially has remained true to himself, his friends and his beliefs: still lives in Jersey, has the same names working with him now as from the beginning and involves himself even more with charity work. What has changed is his attitude towards an acting career. But that's another book. If you're looking for a no-nonsense, fact based book about the years up until 1986/87, this is the one for you.
