The story is set in 2030, but throughout the narrative it jumps back and forth in time. Youval, a young American private investigator living in Paris with a French journalist, is hired by her partner's uncle to investigate the death of his wife three years earlier in the parking lot of the Marigot hospital on the island of Saint Marteen, where she worked as a pediatrician. The man has decided to investigate after all this time because he had closed himself off in despair during those years. Returning to France, to his sister and nephews, he decides to live in Cannes on a sailing ship casino that is also a jazz blues club, the Blues Ship. Jourdain, the name of Aliz e's uncle, Youval's partner, gives the young detective a box that his wife Charlene kept in her hospital office. At first glance, it seems insignificant, but inside, among many scattered items, pencils, erasers, and sheets of paper, there is a diary and some flash drives that look like erasers. Jourdain has never been able to decipher the files they contain, but Youval has a very special gift, a gift due to her condition as a gifted person, which has led her to receive job offers from the White House and the FBI, but which she has always refused, preferring her independence. Checking the flash drives, Youval realizes that nothing is ever as it seems, which is her motto in everything she does. By accepting this assignment, Youval finds herself in the middle of an international intrigue where even the death of Jourdain's wife seems to have a bearing on the investigation being conducted by Lena Torres, deputy director of the CIA, who has discovered that there is a double agent within her division. Together with the FBI, she devises a very risky plan to find out who is playing both sides and putting all their operations at risk, including the one that poor Charlene stumbled upon by chance. In 2028, a woman was elected president of the United States, bringing about various changes that not many people like. She too will play a significant role in this whole charade, where women are the protagonists.
