Saint Petersburg is his home. The Big Neva River is his only friend. Born in the 1950s to a Russian soldier, young Boris Ivanovich Morozov is marginalized for his sensitivity and physical weakness. At fifteen, he faces a traumatic event that opens irremediable wounds in his soul. After a brutal, life-changing experience that makes him a cold-minded executioner, Boris escapes the Soviet Union, and his family ties, for the U.S. Armed with relentless drive and a keen understanding of human psychology, he masters the world around him, climbing the ladder of success in the corrupt and ruthless business world and political scene of New York City, while finding the underworlds of Cuba and Miami ripe grounds for his use. But when his ascent to power seems unstoppable, an unexpected encounter with Mark, a young boy, triggers his emotional conflict with a past that he thought he had forgotten forever, dramatically challenging the last bit of his humanity and setting events in motion that force him, and those connected to him, to come to terms with history.
