Blue Learns about Judaism

By Angelus O'Malley

Fresh bread. A warm welcome. Shabbat shalom

When Blue the Leprechaun and Auntie visit Eli's family, a day of friendship becomes an introduction to Jewish faith and traditions. Eli and his mom share their belief in one God, introduce Torah stories, and welcome Blue to their synagogue, where people gather to pray and learn.

Blue discovers how caring for others becomes action when the family gives food to neighbors who need it. Then, as Friday evening arrives, they prepare for Shabbat-a weekly time for rest and togetherness.

Glowing candles, blessings, challah, songs, and a shared meal help Blue experience the warmth of this family's traditions. Along the way, his questions are welcomed with kindness.

With colorful illustrations and gentle explanations, Blue Learns About Judaism offers young children a first conversation about Jewish life through the experiences of one welcoming family.

For shared reading from babyhood through age six.
