This compilation first published by Harpers more than 20 years after Zane Grey died, is no reflection on the quality of the three stories in it. Blue Feather is Zane Grey's telling of an Indian myth told to him after making friends with the people who ran a trading post on the Indian reservation. It took him many years to learn this story, just as it took him many years to learn other true stories he related in his books, such as the Graham-Tewksberry Feud in Arizona which he made into the novel, To the Last Man. Blue Feather is a warrior chief who must decide between his duty and his love of a princess when war breaks out between two tribes. The Horse Thief is as advertised, except Dale Brittenham didn't steal any horse. And Quaking Asp Cabin is a first person account of Zane Grey spending a night in an abandoned log cabin which spurs his imagination to a tragedy of many years before. Here are three stories of passion and intrigue and bold undertaking true to the American West as Zane Grey knew it to be. I recommend it highly.
