From its magical beginning in the time of Mary, Queen of Scots, an evil spell corrupts the lives of all who touch it. Only children believe the legend: Say Bloody Mary in the mirror thirteen times and you will become the monster. When Amanda Terry finds a mysterious mirror hidden in a box in the attic of her new, haunted home, she unknowingly releases the spirit of Bloody Mary. When Amanda's stepsister, Juli, succumbs to the power of the magic mirror, no one believes Amanda. No one helps her when she tries to resolve the dilemma she now faces. No one, that is, except an odd assortment: her favorite teacher, an eerie storyteller, a playful ghost, the neighborhood witch, and the all-time greatest solver of mysteries -- the public library. Not just a chilling tale, but a novel about self-reliance, courage, friendship, and forgiveness, Bloody Mary is a book of values as well as a challenging mystery. Based on the well-known and internationally published short story, this novel was written when readers everywhere asked the author for the rest of the story. A feel-good book for kids of all ages, Bloody Mary will summon spooky memories of magic and fantasy, where good overcomes evil, and violence takes a back seat to imagination and humor.
Bloody Mary is the best children's horror book I have read in a long time. It ranks up there with the stories from when I was a child that kept me up nights. No murderous teenagers in black robes and hoods on hacking rampages with knives, just good old fashioned fright. Any kid will love it and will be telling the story for years to come around campfires and sleepovers, but they won't dare look in a mirror and say Bloody Mary thirteen times...

The cover makes it look as though it should be a children's book, but it's a wonderfully funny, scary, heart-warming book that all ages will enjoy. The story of Amanda's quest to save her stepsister from the depths of an evil mirror and the monstrous Bloody Mary leaves your heart pounding, but makes you catch your breath in delight at the same time.
