A tale of the formative years of one Jikai Ravenlock, the scion of Kings long dead. In every generation there are those select few who have the potential to become more than they are, they are the chosen. Jikai may be one of these, though not by choice. Violent changes seem to mark his life and the thing he dreads most, magic, finds him whether he wishes it to, or not.
His people live in the four mountain ranges of the Outlaw Kingdom, a far flung wilderness where the dark wars have driven those not willing to succumb to slavery. Yet, still they are hunted, for the magics there children might hold, or just for the sport of the people known as Krakons. The race of people from across the sea who conquered the entire continent of Mataan.
Near the end of the Dark Wars, three centuries hence, the rulers of Mataan and those powerful in magic met in what was fabled as the Gathering. Workings of magic were said to be done, ensuring that a defense could be mounted in the future against there enemies. A prophecy came forth, claiming that one would rise up and unite the kingdoms, renewing the war against the Krakons, this one would be named, Ravenlock. A second Gathering, called the Renewing would signal this occurrence.
