The one negative review is by someone who apparently didn't read the book. Considering his other reviews, I can see why. Occultists tend to think they know everything, because they read a book...people who actually lived through a horrifying, disgusting, and superstitious way of life, well, they're are irrelevant. I bet Oke hasn't even read one Anna Riva book, so what could he have possibly known? Seriously though, Nigerian Isaiah Oke belonged to a Yoruba religion called Ju Ju which where Santeria and Macumba come from. He did not simply "get scared by some missionary". Oke tried to hex someone who had dared not be afraid of him, a black American Christian girl, who was attending his college. When he couldn't kill her with magic, he lost his faith in Ju Ju. The girl told him (and this is the part that really scares occultists!) she didn't believe in it because it was "just silly superstiton"! GASP! Oke wanted to find out "white man's Ju Ju" which was more powerful than his. Thus, he was lead to Christ. Oke drew the conclusion that the spirits he saw were the product of hallucinations brought about by the narcotic herbs used in Ju Ju and hysteria. That of course, is another sticking point with occultists. Oke doesn't "demonize" the religion...he merely tells the facts as he lived them. Ju Ju demonizies itself. Oke raises many good points in the book, such as AIDS spreading through Africa due to blood rituals more than anything else. This book is about the real African sorcery rituals, not the kind done for tourists and anthropologists. This book is very interesting, and also very graphic. Of course, in a generation raised on Friday the 13th movies... If you're not overly sensitive, buy it. He left VooDoo to become one us awful "Xtians". Gotta love it!
Wow, I this is total suspense.

I encourage all who will like to learn read this book. This is an experience. One on the dark side that brings light to the atmosphere. The night I read the book I could not sleep, literally. I stayed up and wondered how many others around the world were able to not only attain but read this awakening. People of all nationalities have to see the truth, read the truth, comprehend and understand it. What this book does is brings readers into the unknown world (the other side) so to speak. I therefore challenge the faint and weak hearted, the average affictinado, the soft read magazine literary people, and critics everywhere to invest and relish in reading this book. It will give you sleepless nights, too. Trust me. Mr. Oke, God bless him I hope is still breathing and able to somehow take the credit for his trilogy wherever in the world he may be. If not, his family needs to know the impact this book has on readers considering all the material out there that has no substance. It has certainly helped me and hope it will help its readers. As they say,Change is Necessary!I encourage all once again to read the book. Also live it, feel it, and then correspond with others about it. Thanx.
Excellent but quite gory

It has been a while since I read this book, but the one thing I remember most is the graphic depiction of the training that the author received on his way to becoming a voodoo priest (well, not quite). The vivid way that he tells of all of the rituals and sacrifices and blood and gore makes you feel like you are enduring the training along side him. This book is not for the squemish! If you have even the slightest case of a weak stomach, read something else because Oke will definitely bring your stomach up into your throat on several occasions. If you can handle the gore, then this is a superb book!
