With that remark, 1st Lieutenant Kele-de "Kai" McMahon of the FAC (Free America Civil Militia) is assigned to go to the Yucatan Peninsula Thaumatic Institute where she is to do a political extraction of a high ranking official, who has some explosive secrets he needs to smuggle out of the country. However, unseen enemies are determined to thwart her delicate assignment. Because of the attempts to stop her, she and the political figure must fall back on Plan B... which is a vague 'we go South' sort of plan.

How is she going to pull this one off? After all there was only supposed to be a 600-mile area she had to traverse with trusted contacts to get them to the pickup spot. So where is she? Kai wryly notes that there is a 3000-mile corridor between retrieval and safety And, somehow, the 'Wild Child' of nature must get them through it.

You'd think in the year 2114 there would be easier ways to get one's job done.
