This research study examines the implementation of blockchain technology in managing electronic health records (EHRs) within healthcare. It highlights blockchain's potential to improve data security, interoperability, and patient privacy, while also identifying significant barriers to its adoption. The study employs a literature review, qualitative case study, and 27 semi-structured interviews to uncover seven barriers, including misconceptions about complexity and mistrust in current data security. It proposes corresponding recommendations to overcome these challenges, guided by the diffusion of innovation theory. The findings aim to enhance understanding of the interplay between blockchain technology and healthcare, ultimately benefiting EHR management and healthcare outcomes.
