It is the story of a family which son is sick. His leukemia modify the relashionships between an unemployed father divorced and his ex-wife who wants to protect her son and excludes the father of her nest while the daughter help his brother giving a sample of her marrow. The father starts to run in competitions at 55 and to sing in a choir while the daughter learn working part-time and the mother has new responsibilities in her bank. The novel try to describe the difficulties and pains of the son and tells also about the treatments in the Hospital with the purpose to help people in such situation.
