FIVE STARS AS Great Read to Take on You Backpacking Trip

I recently ran into the author (a retired Political Science Professor from the University of Idaho) of this book while camping in the Sawtooth Mountains, near Stanley, Idaho. At age 76 or so he is still out there hiking those rugged mountains. He gave me a copy of his book...about several parties caught in an August snowstorm in the White Cloud Mountains, a beautiful and high mountain range across the valley from the Sawtooth Mountians of central Idaho. I was skeptical at first, but I soon found the novel very entertaining. Anyone who has backpacked, especially in this area, would find this novel a pleasant suprise. But beyond the location, the characters soon become interesting, developed in a simple, yet perceptful and intelligent way. Underlying everything you also sense the love the author has for this area (where he has backpacked 14 times), and backpacking in general.
