Noel Coward at his best, and director David Lean. This play has been attempted several times throughout the centuries; however, this is the version that comes to mind for those who have not seen the live play.
Charles Condomine (Rex Harrison) is authoring a book and needs to observe a spiritualist séance for his story. He and his second wife invite Madame Arcati, excellently performed by Margaret Rutherford, to show the way. Naturally, Charles gets more than he bargains for, and we get to have a great time kibitzing.
The film's ending is a nice, predictable ending. However, it is not the ending that Noel Coward wrote. By the way, Noel Coward happens to be the narrator
The movie needs to be watched several times, and each time, something new will be spotted that adds to a wonderful experience.
