BLACK OPS: SLAP is an American military epic about war, race, family, brotherhood, and the making of a United States Marine.
Samuel Edward "Sammy" Benson III grows up in Camden, New Jersey, in an America that demands Black men defend freedom abroad while still fighting for equality at home. In 1962, he enters the Marine Corps and begins a transformation that carries him from Parris Island and the infantry to Airborne training, Recon, advanced maritime operations, and ultimately Vietnam.
The title BLACK OPS carries two meanings.
One is military-the hidden world of reconnaissance, covert movement, intelligence gathering, amphibious infiltration, airborne insertion, and missions where being seen can mean failure.
The other is deeply American-the experience of a Black Marine serving a country that does not always treat him as an equal citizen.
As Sammy becomes Ben, Benson, and eventually Slap, he learns that strength is not enough. Recon teaches him to watch, listen, adapt, and make decisions when lives depend on his judgment. Vietnam will test every lesson.
Grounded in the era's military realities and social climate, BLACK OPS: SLAP follows a fictional Marine through the real tensions of a changing America and a brutal war.
It is a story about becoming elite without losing yourself.
About loving America without lying about America.
About entering the shadows without forgetting where the light came from.
This is BLACK OPS.
