One of her very best

I started with one book, this one was the first and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Ms. Leighs writing is very special and if that sounds cornie I am sorry. The story is beautifully written and the characters real, so much so that you're hooked on them. I have one question. When is the sequel due to hit the book stores. I want to find out what happened to the sister who was kidnapped by the brother of the man she murdered in self-defense.I hope Ms. Leigh plans on writing one because I am sure I am not the only fan who is asking the same question.

Tamara Leigh keeps getting better!

Having read four of Tamara Leigh's previous books, I purchased this one expecting another good story. But Leigh outdid herself with Blackheart, and completely surpassed my expectations. She perfectly captures the inticacies of the time period...i.e...dress, setting, speech, etc...giving them a fabulous realism where I feel as if I've visited the era and place. Never having the time to sit through and skim a less than exciting book, it is difficult to find a book which holds my attention. Blackheart, and Tamara Leigh, definitely know how to hook a reader on the first page. She had me from line one. I planned to read the first chapter and the rest later, but looked up after an hour to discover I'd finished five!A well-crafted and unique story about a wounded villain who forces his wife to seduce the man he feels responsible for his maiming and inability to father children. A man who holds a secret attraction for the very woman who comes to him in darkness. And the woman who blames him for the mock marriage she now endures despite all her childhood hopes and dreams of love. This book is loaded with conflict, and the kind of memorable characters that stay with you long past reading. The story brims with sensual tension between the hero and heroine, building into an inevitable love that leaves the reader wanting more. It is rare, also, to read such a human villain who one both despises and pities...the combination of a great villain.Add to all this Leigh's wonderfully vivid prose and engaging dialogue, and I would encourage any romance fan to try Blackheart, as well as any Leigh book!

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

As a man, I know that my opinion on romance novels doesn't bear to much weight to the modern public. And though my preference in reading does not normally lean towards this genre (sci-fi and fantasy always work well for me, Dan Simmons and Anne McCaffrey seem to always know how to move me, along with those well known authors such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Clive Barker), I have read all of Tamara Leigh's books so far. If I hadn't enjoyed her previous works, such as Misbegotten, well...I wouldn't have read "Blackheart." I purchased Blackheart with the hope in mind that the story would engage me, as all of Tamara Leigh's prevous stories have. I was definitely not disappointed. The main thing I cannot stand about any book or story is predictability. I have read so many books recently that, within which, not only could you predict what was coming, but also had characters that were so shallow, that they gave my garbage disposal more depth than my fish tank. As usual, Leigh's new book, Blackheart, is anything but boring and predictable. Blackheart completely reaches beyond Tamara Leigh's previous works, and takes the reader to unexpected levels. Not only is the plot unique, but the characters are also so well developed, that you can't help believing in them. Their realistic conflicts, both mental and physical, in conjunction with a world in our past created so realistically, lend play to senses inside that only a "good read" can offer. From the description of scenery and scene (battle scenes especially), to the depths of an emotion, Leigh pulls you into a world that, willing or not, you become a part of. Keeping you guessing at every page (all the while you think you know what is coming), Blackheart exceeded any expectation I may have had. Every time I tried to be critical (and you have NO idea how I like to be critical), Leigh threw something unexpected at me. As each page turned, I was drawn more deeply into a world that became, unbeknownst to my wife, more real than my own reality. I would cut conversations short to simply return to the world that Leigh created for me...and the story I longed to be part of. And though I might not weigh as much as the main character, or look as good as she describes him, Leigh's writing not only makes me want to be a better man...but more importantly, really upsets me in regards to all the crappy books I've read over the last year. I will always be a "fantasy" freak when it comes to the genre of my choice. I will never be a "romance novel" freak...like it or not (the romance in my life is well beyond that depicted in any book I have read to date). But I am, wholeheartedly, no questions asked, a definite...Tamara Leigh freak. There is no question to her talent, no question to her abilities. Each book seems to take on a new depth, show a new perspective and create so much imagery in the un-imaginable (to me) worlds she creates...you can't help but wait in anticipation for her nex

It'll keep up up!

Forget the coffee. "Blackheart" will keep you up all night without any help. If you've read Tamara Leigh's 'bride' series, or Unforgotten and Misbegotten, you've got the idea. "Blackheart" reaches far beyond the 'misunderstanding' which plagues so many stories, and delivers a tale that will make you sigh, cry, and rejoice. Gabriel De Vere is not your typical tortured hero, though he's definitely tortured by his father's rejection of him as heir and his best friend's rashness which leads to a malignant rift. Julianan is strong and determined, yet her loyalty to her sister makes her vulnerable to her importent husband's demands for an heir. Juliana is forced into the bed of her husband's enemy. Wat happens when Gabriel dicovers who she is and what she has stolen from him will make your toes curl! The only problem I had with the book, is how long it will take for Tamara Leigh to put out her next one!

WELL WORTH THE WAIT

Though all of Tamara Leigh's books have a permanent place on my shelf, the long-awaited "Blackheart" stands above all my "keepers". This powerfully and beautifully written story not only has the most original plot I've seen in what seems forever, it's characters are so realistic they make you believe in them. As for the pace, with all of Tamara's books, this one was no different, it's break-neck, so you'll likely read it in a single sitting. Prepare to be touched, not only by the trials Juliana and Gabriel must face, but the triumps! Everytime I thought I knew where the book was leading...I was happily mistaken, the plot is very unpredicable. If you want a "feel good" cry, the scene where Juliana gives birth to their son will do the job perfectly. Though "Blackheart" was well worth the wait, I hope a sequel won't be too long in coming. Welcome back, Tamara Leigh, you've truly been missed. You have the ability, and always have, to make a woman walk away feeling better about life in general. Though your books take you on a ride, it's a ride that sticks with you long after the book has been put in it's place on the shelf. Don't miss this book, yes it keeps you hanging for the sequel, but as I said in the title...IT'S WELL WORTH THE WAIT. :)
