Not bad for a debut adult horror

This isn't bad for a debut adult horror. I love Ward's Scareville series and when I found out that like his mentor, Stine, he'd opted to dive into adult horror I was here for it. I have no regrets. This book is pretty much everything you'd want in a horror. While most of it is pretty predictable, there's a few places where things happen that I definitely wasn't expecting. The only issue I really had was John's PoV as a child. While the spoken dialogue was very on par for an eight year old, the narration was much too advanced for a child of that age. Which wouldn't have been an issue if the narration was speaking of past events from adult John, but it's clear pretty early on that every PoV is current tense not past. All in all I really enjoyed this book and I hope Mr. Ward decides to keep testing the waters of adult horror, he's got a disturbing knack for it.
