Black N Blue: an ethnic profile

Why we developed the Officers for JusticeAs I watch media reports about a 22 year old black male shot 20 times, 8 in the back in Sacramento, California I am reminded that we developed the Officers for Justice to counter disrespect by the San Francisco Police Officers Association during the 60s. Chief Cahill said it was inappropriate for blacks to separate from the SFPOA, we were 82 of 1800 and some, like me, joined the department to make a difference.White officers on patrol, in Potrero Hill's Housing Project told two 12 year old black boys: "Why don't you ni**ers put your heads together and make a rock pile. I filed a written complaint with a black assistant to Mayor Joe Alioto, his response was: "With that blond-hair, blue-eyed attitude every ethnic minority in the city and county of San Francisco is at risk. I, earlier, complained to my supervisor when I saw the same officers arguing with Mrs. Julia Comer an elderly neighborhood community leader and member of the "Big 5" while wearing a "Gas Huey" Newton button on his uniform hat. Weeks later the same officers shot an unarmed black male, the attorney for SFPOA said: "A monkey with a stick about to beat a police officer's brains out, while a bunch of hyenas laughed, it was a justifiable killing!" The stick was a piece of plastic used to open and shut venetian blinds, the monkey was an unarmed black male and hyenas were Mexicans who witnessed the shooting. The department did not properly investigate, it was up to police, community relations to resolve the dispute, after interviewing witnesses we decided enough is enough. We met in Eugene Brown's Apartment on Sacramento Street, developed the Officers for Justice; less than ten percent of black officers joined! Eugene Brown, former All-American Basketball Player with USF during a time when the school had the longest winning streak in NCAA history put his reputation on the line. Gene became San Francisco's first black sheriff; media blamed things on him that happened decades before he was appointed and some deputies threatened to release all prisoners. Some say I should have never been a police officer, or soldier, but my generation learned in the trenches, not in books, or on social media. We walked our talk, practiced what we preached, developed solutions to benefit the future; along came integration, the greatest counter-revolutionary move in United States History. Go along to get along "pseudo" educated black, gate keepers moved from our communities and joined, white liberals who spoke about improvement, but history implies they had hidden agendas. In 2018 we are finding many who were imprisoned for decades, were innocent at the time of arrest.
