Bits of Life, Even more poems from Lopez Island, An Introduction by Kim Norton
For many years a group of Lopez Island poets have met to share ideas, coffee, tea, and thoughts on isand life and beyond. Once we catch up on each other's lives, we shift into reading and giving/receiving feedback on our poems. Whether meeting virtually or in person, our kinship as poets continues to grow stronger.
We are an eclectic group with diverse experiences and multiple interests. However we meet, we begin our gatherings by sharing bits of our lives. These bits find their way into our writing. We celebrate the simple act of a daily meal, musings about the Covid lockdown, and a crescent moon crawling out of dripping tree tops. We also notice the beauty of heron footprints in moist sand, the nuances of blue cheese, and learn to sleep in spite of the leak in the neighbor's gutter, all moments that collectively build our days. Our hope is that you enjoy the way these bits of life found words in these poems.
This slim volume is our third book. The first is titled How to Save the World; Poems from Lopez Island originally published in 2014. The second is Refuge on the Rock; More Poems from Lopez Island published in 2019.
