I'm ornithologist working in the Neotropics, and this book has been very useful to me. Lots of different approaches are covered, and it comes handy not only for songbirds, but also tough ones like rails. The author puts a lot of emphasis on the history of each capture method, which makes it a very entertaining reading. There are nice illustrations for each kind of trap. Some traps are pretty obvious to build, but others not so much. However, don`t expect step-by-step lessons and detailed projects for each trap. If you are interested in field techniques, tons of info on their uses and their history - go for it. If you need more detailed protocols, go for it too (but you'll need to use the extensive list of references - which is very rich - and get the original papers).
Truly outstanding!!!

I think this is probably the most usefull book for any ornithologist interested in banning birds. There are also invaluable informations to game warden on traps which might be used by poachers. It covers all trapping methods which are used to catch birds alive.
