Biomechanics of Aikido and Aikijujutsu Techniques

This is the third book in the series that considers the biomechanics underpinning the martial arts of Aikido and Aikijujutsu. The first book The Principle of Aiki and its Application in Aikido and Aikijujutsu, solely looked at Aiki and how it is used to unbalance an opponent. The second book Aiki Techniques in Aikido and Aikijujutsu, contained a collection of diverse Aiki techniques drawn from demonstrations by well known sensei against various attacks each with an in-depth analysis. The initial chapter revises the concept of Aiki and its three forms with supplementary material on experiencing Aiki. Being able to identify the initial Aiki component of a complete technique has allowed the subsequent parts of the technique to be analysed to provide a full explanation of these martial arts. In particular, once the body is unbalanced by Aiki it is in an unstable balanced position and can be retained there by controlling Uke's torso using locked joints and, then applying rotary forces. This has resulted in three principles that govern Aikido and Aikijujutsu techniques. A detailed account of twenty techniques that use rotary forces in Aikido and Aikijujutsu are analysed e.g. Ikkajo,Sankajo, Ippondori, Obiotoshi, Kokyu-nage, Tenkan etc. To complete the book a number of complete techniques are fully analysed starting from Aiki to being thrown.
