Biomechanical constraints on the brain during childbirth

During childbirth, regardless of the baby's presentation, similar sugar loaf-shaped deformities have been observed. These skull deformities also involve a system of internal constraints. Through a prospective study based on MRI scans and simulation software, we were able to compare the prediction of skull bone modeling with the actual outcome of childbirth. Previous dissections have provided insight into the various anatomical structures of the brain, such as the falx cerebri and the tentorium cerebelli. The results showed that birth simulation can predict biomechanical head compressions, but that it can be improved by taking into account the constraints of the tension membranes (the falx cerebri and the tentorium cerebelli). Further studies are needed, but we already know that it is important to incorporate a model of skull bone deformation sequence to obtain a more reliable childbirth simulation.
