Bio-efficacy of Mesotrione + Atrazine SC for Weed Control in Maize

The present study entitled "Evaluation of Bio-efficacy of Mesotrione 2.27% w/w + Atrazine 22.7% w/w SC against weeds of Maize (Zea mays L.)" was conducted during Kharif 2021-22 at the Student's Instructional Farm, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Nawabganj, Kanpur (U.P.). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with ten treatments and three replications to evaluate the effectiveness of different doses of Mesotrione + Atrazine for weed control in maize and its effect on crop productivity and economics. The maize crop was infested with major weeds such as Cyperus rotundus, Echinochloa colona, Digitaria sanguinalis, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Commelina benghalensis and Trianthema spp. Weed infestation caused about 33% reduction in maize yield. Among the treatments, Mesotrione 2.27% + Atrazine 22.7% SC @ 4000 ml ha⁻ provided effective weed control and significantly improved growth and yield attributes. This treatment recorded the highest grain yield (35.18 q ha⁻ ) along with maximum net return (₹50,138 ha⁻ ) and B: C ratio (2.13), indicating that this herbicide combination is an effective and economical option for weed management in maize.
