All it took was one day at RockPile park for Billy, a rambunctious 12 year old boy, to discover who he was in a maze of giant rocks and complex caves. Billy never realized how waking up that ordinary morning, would turn his life inside out, when he discovered the truth of a lost native american tribe and his blood ties. His search for the truth behind the legend of Saw Tooth Mountain, paled in comparison to the difficulties of the journey. Billy had never climbed gigantic rocks or entered dark caves. His parents forced him on this mini vacation and his grandfather added to the dilemma by telling him about the Great Apache Chief Juan Gomez and the disappearance of the tribe in the Davis mountains of West Texas.Billy discovered what Kit Carson had done and how an insignificant carving on a stone changed the ending of a story. It all started in the mid 1800's when Chief Gomez and his warriors were being pursued by Apache scouts, Kit Carson and the calvary. As they fled up Saw Tooth Mountain and closely followed by soldiers, with no way out, it seemed that the Apaches were doomed but something happened. They disappeared! Not a trace of them was found. For years the beating of drums, voices and horses galloping away could be heard in the middle of the night, yet nothing tangible was ever found. An entire tribe had vanished. The day Billy woke up, was the day the mystery was answered. Though he never wanted to go on this trip, Billy became an unwitting piece of a puzzle that completed a picture that had been forgotten.
