Playing baseball was the only way ten-year-old Billy Harris wanted to spend his summer. As soon as the final bell on the last day of school rang, he and his friends were ready to start practice. They were sure this year their team was good enough to be county champions. Then his parents announce that the family must move, shattering all of Billy's summer baseball plans. Summer without baseball was bad enough but the change in his sister's attitude toward him after the move made it even worse. Billy's excitement for summer returns when he is asked to be a replacement on a team in his new city. The excitement begins to fade when he learns that the twelve-year-old boys on the team aren't happy about playing with younger boys. With the help of his new friend, another ten-year-old on the team, the thrill of baseball fills Billy's summer again.
